Quick PA setup

Follow these steps and you won’t get feedback or blow a speaker.

Everything down first. Turn the mixer’s master and channel faders all the way down.
Plug in. Connect each mic to a mixer channel with an XLR cable.
Mixer on, then speakers. Switch the mixer on first and the speakers last.
Set your level. Sing at full volume, turn the channel gain up until it’s strong but not clipping, then bring the fader up.
Avoid feedback. Never point a mic at a speaker. If it squeals, turn down and move the mic.
Finish in reverse. Speakers off first, then the mixer. Coil the cables and put the mics back.

Your own mic if you have one. Or buy a foam windscreen in advance with your booking (£6.60) so the studio mic is yours to sing into. XLR cable. The room has two. Buy your own 3m cable in advance with your booking (£8.20), or hire an extra for £1. Extra mics and stands. More than two singers? Hire extra mics and stands when booking (£2 each). Lyrics or a tablet. Hire a music stand when booking if you need a second one (£2). Water.
